I feel the proverbial dead horse is getting beat more and more with this
topic, so this will be my last post on the subject. I stand corrected on the
statement of leading theoretical tissue compartments (thanks Bill, your posts
were very informative.) My original post about one on gassing more Nitrogen
using EAN36/EAN80 as deco gasses stands.

Upon comparing the leading & intermediate tissue compartments for each of the
dive scenarios, the same thing is revealed. The partial pressure of Nitrogen
in the leading and intermediate tissues on EAN36 @ 110fsw is greater than the
counterpart on 18/35 @110fsw and the one using EAN36 considerably slows his
off gassing of the "culprit" gas. The Decoplanner analysis says on the
bottom mix the diver is off gassing Nitrogen @ -26.9 and when the diver makes
his switch to EAN36 he is off gassing @ -7.7. (Exact #'s vary according to
pref. settings.) This is characteristic of the rest of the dive: one deco-ing
on EAN50/Oxygen on gasses less nitrogen than the one deco-ing on EAN36/EAN80
and the nitrogen the EAN50/Oxygen diver does on gas is off gassed faster.

The extra few minutes of deco on the EAN50 @ 70fsw/Oxygen @ 20fsw comes from
the extra Helium the diver breaths by not making the switch to EAN36. Since
Helium is not as hard on one's body like Nitrogen is this is acceptable.

At the end of this example dive, a diver is better off for having used
EAN50/Oxygen as his deco gas because he has less Nitrogen in his body.

Best wishes to you,
Allyson Clagett

Please explain the significance of the number of theoretical compartments
either on-gassing or off-gassing, verses the one theoretical compartment that
happens to be controlling the deco at any one particular time.
