A major precept of DIR is using the same gear configuration all the time.

As how this precept applies to gas choices, after you do a bunch of dives
using 50 & 100 you get to the point that you know what your deco is going to
be without having to cut tables. If you are constantly "optimizing" your
mixes trying to squeeze out a minute here and a minute there, you never get
to know your deco schedule and how your body reacts to the deco.

And if you know what your deco schedule is, then you know generally what
your fellow dives are going to be. So when the shit hits the fan there is no
a goat-fuck when you are trying to solve an emergency situation. No man is
an island. Nobody in their right mind would go on tech dives thinking that
they don't need any support with any part of the dive. That is a fools
errand.

You guys really need to try this. I cut tables for each dive because this is
part of my drill. But the warm and fuzzies you get by knowing that you can
do your deco in your head is hard to quantify.

Why 50 and 100? Outside of the bakers dozen I use them because it's simple,
quick and efficient to do a 50 and a 100 mix. Keeping it simple reduces the
potential for error by a large margin. As I mentioned I dive off of boats
and doing a 50% is bad enough on a cold, wet night on the back of a pitching
boat, why waste time with a 80/40.

I'd also like to point out that using 36/80 on dives like your example
forces you to use something larger than the optimal AL40 for your final deco
gas. All this to save 5 min.s. I just don't understand your logic.

I know it is hopeless to point out usable, proven techniques like this to
you two bozos as it conflicts with your anti-DIR agenda. But I am sure that
there are lurkers out there who can be persuaded not to dive with the likes
of you fellows (assuming you dive) and take the enlightened high road.
