Instruction is always good, if the instructor is good.  It also isn't 
a bad idea to grab some of the books and read them, even if you're 
not going to take the class.  At least you'll have the theory, and 
you'll have an idea which direction you'll want to go in.  For me 
that would be Trimix, but it looks like I'll have to get a lot of 
"advanced strokification" before I can take that one ;-)
