Hi List,
There has been some good dicussion on shooting bags lately.
I don't need to shoot bags all that often, but I did three times last =
weekend.
All three times I filled the bag from my wing, and the released it in a =
controlled fashion, because up untill I let the bag go, I was neutrally =
bouyant.
Since my left hand was still on the inflator, then I could straight away =
get my neutrality back.
Any way, it seemed to work for me.
Thanks for the tip!!
And now the story:
I was doing a drift dive between the wrecks of the USAT Meigs and the =
USAT Mona Loa.
About a half mile apart.
These were US transport ships sunk by the Japanese during WWII in Darwin =
Harbour.
The partially salvaged by the Japanese hard hat divers during the late =
50's & early 60's.
These wrecks still contain A Bren Gun Carrier, trucks, motor cycles, =
ammo, etc.
No penetration, because of the salvage.
The wrecks in Darwin Harbour are all between 20 to 30 m, hence good =
nitrox depths.
At the end of my dive I spotted a stainless steel prop blade from a =
catalina flying boat.
Had been sitting on the sand for 50+ years.
Would never have found it again, hence shot a bag and salvaged it.
The blade is about 5'6" long.
Difficult to lift alone.
Will clean up nicely.
There is still alot wreckage in the harbour to find.
This was a nice find I thought.
Before I get flamed, NO We Do Not take stuff from the wrecks.
This piece was in the middle of no where.
Thought you may find this interesting.
Jeff the Darwinian.
