I carry the Tekita flares - you get nine mini flares and a launcher in a small pressure/water proof container about 2 inches diam. and 6 inches long. I guess that they would only be of use if you hit someone with the flare <g>. I recon to use them at night. I renew the flares every 2 years and fire the old ones off on Fireworks Night and I don't expect more than 2 of the 9 to missfire. I also carry a flag - a collapsible flagpole made of three pieces of 3/4 inch by 18 inch long plastic tube with an overgrown rubber band running down the center of the tubes and a 18 inch by 24 inch day-glow orange flag - which I guess is the same as you have? I have thought of this problem many times over the past years. I don't believe in the air powered horn thing; I dive mostly around the South Coast of England and usually from Weymouth. I have passed round Portland Bill many times in a thick fog - you can only hear the fog horn from about 200 yards over the noise of the boat's engines and that is a _VERY_ large air-powered horn!! There are only 3 bits of kit that I recon will fit the bill. The first is a He filled balloon - size? - will just large enough to pick me up and put me on the boat <g>. The next idea is a mobile phone in a waterproof container - just imagine the Coast Guard's face when you give him a call!! Finally, a first class local skipper with a very good boat. |_| _ _ _ < Internet : harry@ra*.de*.co*.uk* | | (_)_ | | |_| < CI$ : 100141,1632 | < Snail : 90 Balham Grove, London SW12 8BE, UK
