The sub was in only 30-40 feet of water and buried almost completely. The lift was made by running 20 or so hollow lifting tubes under the wreck and injecting a self curing foam into them. The tubes then conformed completely to the contour of the sub. The slings were then attached to a lift frame and the over burden of silt removed from the sub. More information on the Hunley and its lift can be found at the National Geographic web site. Pete Johnson -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
