Hi Stuart (or Scott, I'm not sure which),

Thanks for your comments.

Of course I'm aware of brand names being used for generic items i.e. IBM
cards, Aspirin, Kleenex, and Xerox copies. But in this specific case, I
believe it is not wise to refer to O2 compatible lube (such as Crist-O-Lube)
as "Silicone" or your term "sil grease." I can easily imagine some
inexperienced diver, after hearing about using "silicone" with oxygen
systems, going out and using some G.E. Silicone grease on a deco reg for 100%
oxygen. And I hope you agree that this really is dangerous.

Take care and safe diving, Scott

like you I do not own one single reg which has had an O2 kit. Five years

of O2 and they still work the same. I'm still using an original first run

Apeks T40 (before they added the 'X' as a marketing gimmick to make it

the TX40) with O2 with all original parts. It has been cleaned and

regreased many times and there has been no noticeable degradation of any

part except the mouthpiece which I bit through when some fool knocked me

off a deco stop. I don't know if it makes a difference but I flush it

through with some air after every dive. O2 kits and, more so, branded

nitrox regs strike me as a con.

It's like not all vacuum cleaners are made by Hoover, but over here a

vacuum cleaner is still called a hoover regardless. That slimey stuff you

lube regs with is always called sil grease regardless of what's in it,

it's just a general term, not a specific. Bloody hell, jetfins have

neither jets nor fins on them and no-one complains :)

nothing else is needed. "02 Kit" is nothing but a scam. I have been using no
special prep regs on 100% 02 for the last 5 years, as have many of my dive
buddies. No explosions or even failures.

Sounds like shop #4 would be the one to deal with.
