Sandblasting takes excessively long and it is
sometimes hard to locate a source. Just find a
good ole "Body Grinder" to get rid of all that
ugly rust. They are great too for removing all
those deep pits and gouges. Never mind the
reduction in wall thickness; either method will
explode all the same, Duh?

Ever heard of "Zip Strip" and "POR-15"? Do not
worry about the chemicals permeating the cylinder
walls and contaminating your gas supply; at least
it will be a slower death than blowing your ass
off. ;-)

As for cylinder boots, they are amazingly useless
POS. All they accomplish is to destroy cylinders
and create an excellent snag/drag/entanglement
factor.

I can not believe that after 50 years of diving
divers are still having cylinders regularly
condemned because it had a "Boot" to protect the
boat. The retailers love it though; why do you
think they push them so much? Some will even
throw it in "Free" since it only cost around
$2.00 wholesale to guarantee future cylinder
sales!

Any skipper who requires boots on all cylinders
violates "Rule Number 1" by definition. Any
diver who does not understand how to properly
handle a cylinder(s) without a boot(s) aboard a
vessel also violates "Rule Number 1" as well.
Find a knowledgeable skipper/boat with a proper
bench/rack. Gel Coat repair is still cheaper any
day than a new Steel in the event momentary
Cranial Rectitis sets in.

Powder coating? Is that the same as in Gun
Power?
;-)

Take care and think it through!

Sincerely,

William

PS - Do not forget to look under the bands too?
