Not entirely sure on this. I just ignore it because the differential time interval is actually set too short (this could be different between the old and new models). I can swing my arm from below me to above me without changing my body depth and the thing shows a violation due to the speed. Of course, I have long arms... I forget where I heard this, but someone told me once that it was programmed with two rates according to depth (something like 60 fpm below 33 feet, and 30 fpm above) but I have not verified this. It really is a moot point.
