Subject: RE: san diego death
I just had a close look at the DeepTech article (third quarter issue 9)
on an interview conducted with A Maffatone and some of the answers to
questions are quite amazing! its worth a read just to learn what not to
do in any case.

I don't know what the gas plumbing configuration of his latest rig was
but the one featured in DeepTech is contrary to his interview answers.

For example.

DT: Why do you think some tech
divers say a gas switching manifold is
    dangerous?

TM: Simple, they have never seen a real
       gas switching manifold built especially
for tech diving. It just didn't exist
before I built this one!!!!!!!. The few divers
who used one and the accidents that occurred
from their use can be directly attributed
to the fact they were not using something
specifically designed and built for tech diving
but just plumbed all the gases together.

Take a look at the drawings in the article and see he actually
just plumbed all the gasses together in a very simple fashion!
Threw in an extra valve to isolate the higher O2's but thats it!
Just a matter of time before complication and opening a wrong
valve would have led to an unfortunate accident.
