Peter,

I disagree completely. There is a right and wrong . . . and I'm a damned,
tree-hugging, liberal.

Of those people who died in accidents, some were drunk, some were driving
unsafe vehicles, some were stupid and aggressive and some did a wide array
of other things including not getting enough sleep and falling asleep at the
wheel, putting on makeup (a woman was killed in Fatlanta yesterday), using
computers while driving and on and on. These people were all WRONG!

Some were unlucky. They were unlucky enough to get in the above people's
way. Many were not wrong, many were.

Some wear their seatbelts, keep their cars in top shape, choose a car that
has a good safety record and effective safety devices, took driver's ed
courses in high school and continue to drive safely and are always scanning
the road for the "other guy" who isn't safe. They don't drink and drive,
they aren't aggressive drivers and they make sure that they are prepared to
drive a vehicle that weighs a ton or more and that hurtles itself along a
congested road at 60+ MPH with other chunks of heavy metal and with drivers
who maybe aren't as aware as they are. Every day I swerve out of the way of
some moron. Had been picking my nose in blissful ignorance and communal,
driving joy, I'd have been dead.

Sharing information doesn't mean that we're going to sit around in a
circle-jerk slobbering over each other's every word and hugging and crying,
saying support, bland things and agreeing with every stupid thing that's
said. Fortunately, there are enough impolite bastards to let the rest of us
know when we are about to drive onto a train track that's about to be
occupied.
