Miss Lindsey went to the Ocean Venture this weekend. The OV is a tanker sunk
in WWII in 160' of water. She was subsequently bombed and depth charged
repeatedly through the war so it's a fairly scattered wreck.

We left Sat. night at about 10:00pm and did the 4.5 hour cruse in calm seas.
A few guys did a night dive into what turned out to be a strong reverse
current and poor vis. One small lobster was brought up.

Daytime conditions were better, water temp was 70F, vis was about 100' down
to the thermocline which was distinct as a muddy brown layer at 70'. It was
weird to see the anchor line disappear into the murk. In the thermocline the
vis dropped down to about 10' and temp dropped to about 48F-50F. At about
145'-150' the vis opened up to about 25'.

This is a very large wreck and well spread out, the scooter guys were having
fun. We were anchored about amidships, the anchor dropped right into the
"cathedral", so stern or bow your choice. Lots of huge Tautaug and many
black bass. It was quite a relief to pop out of the murky thermocline into
the warm water for the remainder of the deco.

Personally I used a 18/40 mix for the first dive which air-topped to 20/20
for the second dive. A trimix dive to 160? Horrors! Brett must be spinning
in his grave. Oh, yeah, he's still alive.

A couple of people were on air and commented on how narced they were, and
one air diver got so narced he decided not to do the second dive. Those on
trimix brought up a few artifacts, light cages and some other stuff. While
we were in sunlight and under blue skies, people were getting zapped by
lighting and hammered by hard rain shore-side. Not unusual for Virginia
Beach, VA.
