I, and I believe others, looked at this story from the viewpoint of the uninitiated. I feel that after viewing this story the gentle reader thinks that techdiving is some sort of weird sport populated by Rube Goldberg diving rigs and other assorted tomfoolery. I know it's not the Wahoo people's fault that the story was presented this way but I sure don't want Tony's rig popping up in peoples heads when I tell them that I tech dive. Personally I know to expect the strange, backward and silly behavior from many (not all) NE wreck divers, i.e. the pelican lights, transpacs, independent doubles, pony bottles and other goofy shit, and nothing on the slide show was a shock to me and probably to anybody else on the list. But the Wahoo people should have known better than to parade Tony out to ABC as some sort of normal techdiver. And that 80' dives for 20mins is techdiving. And I don't care how strong or smart somebody is, you cannot carry that sort of weight without there being substantial cardiovascular consequences which are counter-indications for technical diving. It is not humanly possible. Imagine if ABC had gone down to Hatters and filmed Capt. Art as a typical scuba diver. His gig is to tie a AL80 to his back with an old rope and then walk around the wrecks in nothing but his swim trunks, no fin's, BC, nothing. Do you think he is a typical boat captain and wreck diver and would like him to be your representative to the general public at hand as a "typical wreck diver"? I think not.
