JT, John`s comments reflect the present situation. A list member has =
asked me to check out the possibility of diving the Lucy. I have been =
informed that a monitoring charge of =A3300.00 per day will be required. =
This will be payable to ??????
A permit from Heritage is definitely required.AFIK, Bemis is eager to =
start salvage on her, the Irish government are not too eager to give =
permission. There is a "rumour" of priceless art on her, belonging to =
Hugh Lane, an art collector from Ireland who has a gallery named after =
him. As such, the goverment would claim these paintings as Lane left his =
collection to the Irish state.
They are supposedly in protective lead casings, and on board the =
Lucy.Although Bemis won the legal custody battle, the Irish threw a =
curve ball at him, as we are known for, and put the wreck under the =
Office of Public Works protection, before letting Heritage take over, =
which meant anyone, irrespective of ownerdhip, needed Irish permission =
to dive it.
Richard was on the Lucy last year, and he will verify that the Irish =
kept a close eye on the diving, best Jack.
