Interesting thoughts,
I can understand where you coming from but have to say that when you
teaching anything you usually have to break things down into small logically
linked steps. ie you don't teach someone to drive at 70mph on a motorway in
lesson 101. So if we can agree the learning process is a series of small
steps its normal to recognise and make a award as you reach certain
milestones in the learning process.
I think the secret it to make sure you have the correct learning steps in
place and to make sure a student understands there own limitations. - or do
you know different. Is there a SCUBA training agency that you would
recommend that teaches you everything you need to know on day one?  :-)
