Dave, "tec" diving effectively means doing it right,
as in doing what it takes to effect the dive in the
most optimal manner.

For instance, use of a trimix instead of air for a
dive would be "tec" , and conversely, air diving is
not tec diving.

Beginning diving is what it is - a starting place.
Even that can be "tec". Tec means learning more and
optimizing.

For most people the fist "tec" question they ever
asked in a PADI course was "what do you do if you are
two squares past a black box?" Deco - "tec"  begins.
