Item Subject: Text_1 Dear Techdiver readers - this is a thread from scuba-uk regarding what paints to repaint cylinders with. The use of car paint and hammerite is being questioned ( plus the requirements of steel and aluminium aka aluminum cylinders) Years ago I was told to use aerosol car paint, then hammerite ( can't remember who said this but it must have been someone whose judgement I respected) - which I used recently for the first time ( handpainting) . I was ridiculed at Swanage for using it and was told that he wouldn't fill my cylinders which ruined my day. I went along to Poole DIve Centre - who I've had quite a lot of dealings with in the past to get a fill and they were unhappy about it too. Steve explained that they couldn't tell which type of paint had been applied and that they had had warnings ( presumably from trade journals) about certain paints degrading the integrity of the steel.... As an instructor I was f**rly embarassed about this. I get the BSAC NDC bulletin, most UK mags and some US ones and am an IANTD member too. I haven't seen anything regarding this problem. I've just decided to post this to techdiver too to see if anyone on either forum can give a definitive answer on what to paint my cylinder with. Ps please don't use compound names only - give me a obvious clue about the likely place I could find the paint eg use paint for cars $"%^^"acetate , use paint for walls Dulux weathershield :-) If any company has the warning that PDC referred to I'd be interested in putting it the club newsletter. Thanks Brian
