"Mission critical" my aunt Bertha's butt <G>! Try getting a job in Home
Depot, Wal-Mart's, K Mart or most of the other nation-wide chain stores.
Almost all require drug testing (I haven't applied there, but I can read the
signs posted at the entry ways of the store). I wish that all these
corporations were concerned about their employees use of drugs but it ain't
the case!

The issue is liability. Courts have held that the employer is responsible to
take prudent measures to insure that their employees won't do something
stupid to bring harm to their clients/customers or to the other employees.

A company by the name of John Reid & Associates out of Chicago has made good
money for years teaching investigators to conduct what is called an
"Integrity Interview". Without giving up the "trade-craft" involved it is
basically a method of screening applicants which will indicate possibilities
of everything from drug abuse to employee theft. This process has been used
by major companies, police departments, and federal agencies for years. I
have used them to do refresher training for my agent's over the years.

BTW, even though there was a directive for applicant and employee drug
screening that came out of the Reagan Administration (you knew it didn't
come out of Clinton's), it has still not been implemented in many federal
agencies. My agency only got around to it this last year!

Dave
