I'm familiar with the VR-3 and have had an opportunity to test dive one numerous times. The VR-3 uses the Buhlmann 2H-L16C algorythm modified for Pyle type deep stops. It is basically proplanner in a box and can uploaded and downloaded from proplanner on your PC via an infrared port. Proplanner is actually included with the VR-3 package. However, all VR-3 functions are accessible using it's two reed switches even underwater. I wouldn't recommend buying two VR-3s for redundancy. I simply cut tables and do gas planning while downloading from proplanner on my laptop to the VR-3 and carry a back up bottom timer. Using a VR-3 shouldn't negate the need to do such dive planning. The VR-3 won't lock up if you violate dive protocal. It will continue to display and calculate a dive profile but will advise you to "go to tables" as an advisory that you've entered a high risk zone. I had heard that the manufacturer was considering putting the game Tetrus on the VR-3 not Snake but decided against it because it ate up too much battery power. The VR-3 is already very battery hungry. Scott -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
