Good, I'm glad we can be civil ;-)
You raise some interesting points, I'll try to answer them below,
feel free to let me know when I'm full of it, that's why I read this
list, to learn!

I have 17 pounds on my weightbelt right now. It's one more thing,
and dropping 16 pounds is not an option nor necessary when you have a
pony with enough gas in it to do a safe ascent including a 3 minute
stop at 15 feet.

I don't wear a crotch strap with a single tank. I don't find it necessary.

Every dive is a deco dive, right? I think that after doing a dive to
130 feet, even if within NDL, my chances of getting bent on a blow
and go ascent are pretty good. The NDL (well, my computers profile,
I should say), are based on an ascent rate of 30 fpm. Going up like
a bat out of hell isn't a good thing, isn't safe, and isn't necessary
with a redundant gas supply.

So now I should wear a crotch strap, a weight belt, two buckles, just
so I can drop 16 pounds and either embolize or get the bends ?!?!??!
WHY?

Blow and go is not safe, and I do solo dives to 140 fsw. A pony is
enough to get me back to the surface safely from that depth should I
have a complete failure on the other tank. Last night I was readying
and account by R. Pyle, and it occurred to me that you don't even
need a big failure. All you need is for your pressure gauge needle
to get stuck!!!

>You dont need a pony bottle unless you are solo diving without a plan.

The Pony has several advantages. One is that it's a redundant gas
supply. Two is that you can put in a nitrox mix that give you a 1.6
on your max depth, figuring that there isn't even enough gas in the
pony to make that a problem, but you have the option of switching to
it at the safety stop for a higher percentage of O2 at that time.

I will graduate to doubles eventually, but you can't take doubles
with you easily when you travel. Doing deep dives within NDL's I
don't see why a pony is so bad. I wear mine as a stage bottle, so
it's good practice. If anyone bitches about your bringing too much
gear, I would tell them to lick it, stamp it and mail it! It's your
dive, your life, your safety, you decide!

Cheers,
