Subject: whalers get bent

Perhaps there might be an immunological aspect to the question. Complement
activation has been put foreward in increasing the risk of bends. As well
as the state of play with your immune system. Someone fighting off an
infection with high levels of antibodies in the blood system may be more
prone to DCS. Perhaps whales have been able to evolve blood proteins that
act as homogensing agent for bubbles. A sort of anti-nucleation protein. An
other question might be to do with whale blood pressure and flow through
their circulatory system. Just a few more ideas for the pot.
