Two ideas-
Generally these things are annoying, but not dangerous. Really good
hygiene- carefully clean the toes with a nail brush. Then old fashion
stuff like epsom salts would probably get rid of it- 3 or 4 times a day
until all cleared up. The other low tech treatment would be the creams
that they use for vaginal yeast infections- same drug as they use for
topic application for toe nail fungus- the beauty of these is that they
are available OTC, but more potent than anything they normally sell OTC
for toe fungus.
The alternate plan would be to get one of your buds with full drug
coverage to get it for you. That would a violation of federal law.
This sporanox stuff is only intended for use in diabetics and people
with poor immune systems who are really at risk for severe, maiming or
life threatening infections from skin fungus.
A third alternative would be to see if you insurance covers podiatry
treatments. A podiatrist would be very well versed in treating this
kind of infection. Even if you had to pay for the visits, if plan #1
didn't work, then it would have to be cheaper, and less risky as a
diver, than taking Sporanox. I'd definitely check with a diving Doc or
DAN before taking it and diving.
