I recently purchased one of the EE canister lights. It weighs 8 pounds out of the water, but only 1.5 negative in the water. I'm wondering if there is any point (or danger) in filling the air space next to the batteries with epoxy. I'm assuming that this airspace is the reason for the relatively low average density of the canister assembly. Most importantly, I'm concerned that I may be exposing myself to a danger of explosion if I do this. Is this airspace necessary to allow for some kind of gas venting, or is it simply there for no reason at all? The battery is of course a lead-acid sealed 12 volt (two wired parallel, to be precise).
