The equipment manufacturers will tell you that they do it to make for more
flexible configuration and set up. That might be partly true. The more
important reason is that they did it because their customers demanded it.
Why? Because when digital (especially hoseless) computers came on the market
divers found them to be unreliable and wanted to back them up with analog
gauges. They needed a second port to accommodate an SPG.

<<also why are there 300bar/4000psi and 400bar/5000psi
gagues ? gas law beomes non-liner from somewhere 240
bar onwards...doesn't make sense to pump tank to any
higher rite ? can we just stick to a 300bar pressure
 gague/spg ?>>

Any mechanical pressure gauge is most accurate at midrange. Ideally, a
pressure gauge should have a range of about twice the pressure that you will
be measuring. Practically, for measuring tank pressure, you should choose a
pressure gauge with a range about 50% more than the pressure of the tank when
it is full. That way, it will be in the more accurate portion of its range
during most of your dive.

Good diving,
Dale
