There's nitrox. There's decompression diving (technical nitrox). 
And there's adding another gas - trimix.

I count three steps, with the last one being about the smallest.

Now, line up those three steps against the great Wall of Courses 
that IANTD uses to soak the students and you'll notice some excess.
That's the real bullshit.
