Hi all, I tried to post this a few days ago but it hasn't bounced back yet. I shall therefore assume it never reached the net, sorry if I am repeating myself! At the weekend I was talking to a freind who has just completed an HSC reresher course for diving medicine. He mentioned the significant advantage in using heliox for DCI first aid instead of 100% O2. Apparently a number of studies have been done on rats and show that 20% O2 + 80% He is the optimum mix to use at atmospheric pressure, but in a recompression chamber, variations on the O2:He ratio are more beneficial than O2 alone. Does anyone know where I could get the publications of these studies, and, more importantly, does anyone know any more? All comments gratefully received. Dr Ali Lawrie. aml@li*.ac*.uk*
