I had this emailed to me today. Does anyone have any further info on this incident? This message is not too specific. Apparently this weekend there was a fatality on the U-853. The specifics are not completely know to me at this time. >From what I was told a diver, experienced on this wreck dropped off the boat, and had some kind of problem, surfaced 15-20 seconds later, then descended. His buddy became concerned when he ahd not immediately "met up" prior to decent, and descended after him, finding him at the bottom motionless, upon contact the distressed dive pulled off the second divers mask. With no further activity. The second diver then used a lift bag to rescue the diver form the bottom. From what I was told, he was wearing big high volume doubles( pumped way up ) , a tech style BC ( OMS?) a dry suit and had very well maintained gear. Currently the Coast Guard is investigating. The reason I bring this to the boards attention, lately I have seen a major amount petty garbage. I think when something such as this tragedy comes out. We as a community have to think... can this happen to me or my buddies. The answer lies among all of us... we all enjoy this sport, and to some obsession ~grin~. So lets please put our tempers on the back burner and take a moment ... Scott Mahana -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
