There was a thread in the archives about this sometime ago.... However, 5 nines of purity is TOTALLY overkill. Industrial grade is 99.9 and works great. Some suppliers actually will label and track it as USP. SOMETIMES balloon grade helium has other stuff in it, like O2 or Argon. ALWAYS DO A VOICE-TEST ON NEW HELIUM BOTTLES. Ask your supplier for a spec sheet on the balloon grade stuff, or tell him you want welding grade. In the US, a 330 (50L/200bar) helium cost between $40.00 and $100.00. All prices are HIGHLY negotiable. Bottle rental is between $4 and $15.00 a month, purchase is always the better deal in the long run, but somehow $40.00 a month is a lot easier to sneak by the wife than $1000.00 outright purchase :-) O2 is usually around 40% the cost of helium.
