From my observations PADI seems to train their Instructors to pass the IE
rather than to become a good/competent Instructor, e.g. minimum scores
still get the c-card.

Down here PADI will not issue a Nitrox Instructor rating unless the
applicant is already an Instructor from a recognised Technical agency (PADI
is the only non-technical agency here) or if the candidate attends one of
the special Nitrox Instructor workshop with a qualified course director, CD
with 10 Nitrox dives.

We even had a PADI IDC graduate approach us before they attended their IE
to arrange for some technical Instructor courses (Nitrox, Advanced Nitrox
and Deco Procedures).

These were to be done the week following their IE. The 'instructor' was
qualified up to Deco Procedures and had a total of 14 technical dives
(including all course dives). This person was to become the technical
Instructor for their shop.

Before you ask, we said piss off.

At present we provide the technical instructors for a local PADI facility,
we have been told that this will change when PADI Tech becomes available.

On one hand it will be funny to sit back and watch a twenty technical dive
'veteran' teach Trimix and have all/some survive, but on the other hand the
first death or serious DCI incident will probably kill any and all
'commercial' technical diving here.

Hell, after one rebreather death a while ago the proposed government
regulations will just about nullify any 'commercial' rebreather
use/instruction here.

I suppose 'Drew' gets paid whether the PADI membership trusts and respects
his opinion or not.

A good Instructor will always ensure that they don't get in above their
depths. PADI has such people, and they will not be the ones we will read
about. It will be the average, minimum pass, mass produced bozo, that does
his technical workshop and 10 dives that will make the news.
