I have used it in industrial applications when it was clearly called for (long-term exposure to oxidizers) but it is poorly suited to most diving applications. Its biggest drawback is its poor resistance to wear. You can expect a Viton O-ring to fail in a tenth the time of a nitrile one in dynamic applications. The exposure of our diving equipment to oxygen is minimal -- only a few hours at a time. About the only seal that is exposed to high O2 for extended time is the tank O-ring on an O2 bottle. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
