Sean: Inflatables made from PVC (like Zodiacs) are "stroke" boats and will eventually fall apart on you. You need to "step up and pet the pony" and get real inflatable like an Avon, which are hand-made from Hypalon rather than machine-pressed out of PVC. Hypalon can easily be glued and repaired. PVC is almost impossible to work with. Go search for "Zodiac" in the deja news rec.boats archives and you will a trail of tears that looks like the results of a "Cochran" search on techdiver. Older Zodiacs are famous for self-destructing and then you have to deal with French approach to customer service for the warrantee. I think this generated a class action suit against Zodiak a few years ago if I'm not mistaken. As for how to replace a transom, that's a good question for rec.boats anyway. Lots of boat-yard junkies hang out there.
