Jeff, I don't think anyone is arguing with your particular application.
Geez, just reading your dive reports makes the hair on the back of my neck
stand on end. I'm sure you have your gear figured out.

My comments weren't about sump diving (about which I know nothing). I was
commenting on the logic of putting together an expensive set of mini-doubles
for open water recreational diving. Frankly, if I had a set, I would
probably dive them too. There's nothing inherently unsafe or wrong with such
a rig. It sounds pretty slick actually. But I am questioning whether a set
of mini-doubles are $800 better than a single tank for open water
recreational diving, and whether its worth the extra hassle of using
non-standard gear in a recreational setting.

The essence of DIR is minimalism. I'm simply suggesting that before someone
runs out and drops $1000 on a set of mini-doubles, they should really
consider if it adds functionality to their diving. To quote Jarrod
Jablonski off the GUE web site: "At the heart of this concept is the
conviction of minimalism. Items that are superfluous should not be part of
one's diving attire- when in doubt leave it at home."
