George,

I wanted to thank you on all the Masters Swim info. I
think that everyone on the list could learn a lot from
doing it. Just to give you a run down of what it is
like the first week I thought I would share a few
impressions with you.

I think the benefit it could have to tech divers in
general is just an overall fitness level for one, I
also think it increases your knowledge of
streamlining, and also makes you aware of every
movement you take results in either a fluid action
forward or more resistance backward. It will keep you
active in the water during down times and make you
less susceptible to DCI.

I decided to go three times a week at first to ease
into it. Swimming for two hours straight looks easy on
paper but it is difficult if you haven't done it in
awhile. Regardless of how much diving you have done
recently. I think this schedule is attainable for a
novice and you can build pretty easily on it.

I felt like a complete dickhead in my speedo walking
around the pool. After about a week you dont notice
it any more. Everyone looks the same. I had two
goals when I started. The first was to swim for the
complete two hours and the second was to actually show
up at 5 am. I accomplished both. Over the past three
weeks my speed is getting better and I plan to start
throwing in an extra day every couple of months until
I get up to 6 days a week.

I always used the excuse that I didnt have enough
time to get out there. I now work the regular 40
hours a week, I am studying for the CPA exam, and am
about to enter a night joint MBA/JD program. I find I
have cut out the stupid stuff (like TV) and
rescheduled my day. I get up at 4am get to work by
7:30, work all day, spend lunch at the gym doing a
spin class, and then study all night until about 10.
So if that is your excuse save it. You can find the
time if you really want to. I am getting more done now
than ever. Plus with eating right and excersizing
regularly, I have more energy to keep going throughout
the day.

I have lost 6 pounds since I have started this program
a month ago and my body is tightening up in places it
hasnt before. I have changed around my diet (A salad
a day) and feel better than I have felt in awhile. My
stamina and endurance should be a lot better by the
time diving season gets in full swing here and I am
looking forward to seeing how it affects my skills. I
will keep the list informed how it is progressing.

Additionally, I met some pretty cool people. Plus I
met a little hottie that can swim the 440 in record
time. Another good benefit.

In the meantime, I will be riding two subways at 4 in
the morning and busting my ass twice a day keeping the
hammer down getting into the best shape of my life.

TB
