Agreed. For what it is worth, 6 people I know (LA, Boston, Raleigh, Boca Raton, Miami) - none of them cave or technical divers - have switched to backplate/harness in the last year. Not as wannabe-tech divers, but because they see value in simplicity, attention to detail (lack of danglies), & rugged construction. 4 of them have switched to long hose & short 2nd. the others are still contemplating it. they all dive single tanks. some dry, some wet. 2 people that i told about the SanPedro/Great Escape attended, and ended up getting Halcyon plates & single wings. One of them said (paraphrased) - compared to my old Dacor jacket, it feels like i am flying. One Note to Irvine, Jablonski, Kane, Volker, et al..... when you do a demo/seminar , have one of your divers dressed ( probably in lycra suit to avoid heat problems). do NOT just talk about it. Have the diver show HOW the harness is assembled, adjusted, donned & doffed while the presenter speaks. the explanation of long hose benefits would be more easily grasped if your presenter walks up to the suited diver, grabs the primary, and he grabs his necklace second. BLINK! 1-2 seconds, everybody safely breathing. repeat two or three times to show how fast & simple it is, how there is no "choke"concern, how easy to re-route the hose. regards, peterV saintpetersburgFL -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
