Ben, The bashing is because it's about ATTITUDE. This is the first thing that is needed to make you a good diver. And this is what is lacking in the heads of the mainstream agencies. Saying that 100 dives is enough to make you an instructor or that poodle jackets are safe or any of that other bullshit that is taught is the perfect examples of the wrong attitude. And this perpetuates itself because these are the ones that are mass producing strokes. Don, # of dives... this is even greater bullshit... You guys are constantly bashing people with thousands of dives - the leaders of IANTD, TDI and everything else. It's either DIR or bullshit from what I've seen on this list. It's obvious that the number of dives doesn't really matter. 2000 dives looking for lobster in 30 feet of water with gear that gives George nightmares is going to improve what? You're either ready to teach or you aren't... you're not going to find some stupid formula to figure this out. There's never going to be an agency that nails it every time. Wait until GUE turns out enough instructors to teach everyone on the planet that wants to learn to dive (because that's really what you guys are bitching about)... you'll get some really bad apples at that point. What are the requirements for teaching for GUE? I'll bet it's not simply logging a bunch of dives. -ben --- "Mcinnis, Don" <Don.Mcinnis@in*.co*> wrote: > Does this really matter? 60 dives or 100 dives is > still WAY TOO LITTLE to be > turning out certified divers.
