Rob,

        A good hardware or marine store with lots of stainless hardware will
have stainless latches, not the same as the Nielsen but more like what you
would see on a tool box.  I have used both to make cannister lights - I prefer
the Nielsen type (they are spring loaded) but the others I got were ok and even
adjustable and I think they were about $7 each with catches.
