Halcyon was at Sea Rover's (Boston dive show) this year for the first time, which was fun, so us New Englanders could actually handle the merchandise. Actually, the booth seemed to be GUE/Halcyon/EE, and the hot news was that Halcyon and EE are now the same company, but I forgot to ask who ate who, and where it leaves GUE. OMS had two quite respectable appearing non-bungey wings at their booths (tucked away in a corner, with the still the bungey wings the featured display), a 45 and a 65. They appeared to be very nicely made on the outside though the bladder didn't seem (though I can't swear to it) as rugged as the one in the Halcyons. Oh, and the inflator hose goes in in the right position. And Dive Rite was selling MOD tank stickers. The funniest thing was the new Genesis tech BC. it's a fairly standard lets-reinvent-the-wheel tech-lite wing, but what caught my eye was a little Princeton Tec40 in the right place on the strap, but hanging loose, held only by a little cord tied to the end. No clip. I was wondering how it was held on and gave it a tug, and it pulled right out on the end of the cord - there's a retractor buried inside the harness! Now if you DIR folks are so smart, how is it you never came up with that? The award for disingenuousness went to Cis Lunar's Nordstorm who, while boosting about how the Wak2 team made a 14,000 foot penetration, added almost parentheticallly that theres "Another group of divers that CLAIMS to have been even further". -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
