All bullshit - no sugar. Once you start sugar, you need to use it every
40 minutes. However, you do not want to change the balance at all. Just
use water.

If you are not normally balanced and correctly hydrated, then this is a
countindication for any serious diving. That issue is controlled by
other factors and it is too late to deal with it as you show up for a
dive.
