Ibuprofen (IBF) inhibits prostaglandin synthesis (sp) which is one of the
mechanisms of pain associated with swelling.

Some divers will take IBF pre and post dive to reduce the possible tissue
swelling typical of long deco dives.

Glucosamine works in an entirely different way by enhancing the synthesis of
synovial fluid in the joint capsule. therefore it would have no real effect
on the post dive swelling seen by some.

There was a thread a few months ago on the use of ibuprofen as a
preventitive measure for damage to the joints. I've been using
glucosamine for a (non-diving related) recurring shoulder joint injury
and I was wondering if anyone had looked at the effects of glucosamine in
a similar manner to ibuprofen. It is reputated to be a beneficial
supplement for preventing general wear and tear on the joints and
surrounding tissues, does this extend to diving induced stresses?
