Greetings List,

Thanks for your responses regarding the double wings question. Your were
answers were, for the most part, helpful, and confirmed my beliefs. I would
like to respond to a few questions.

First, regarding the steels; I actually will have two sets. I have a set of
LP 75s that I have been using for about 2 years now. With them I sling two
aluminum 30s for deco. I have been diving this rig, using the rule of
thirds, and coming back to the boat with 900lbs in my back gas. This has
worked for 15-20min bottom times to depths of 170-200fsw. I like the
buoyancy characteristics of these steels. I hate big weight belts used to
sink large aluminum tanks. My rig is usually only 4-5 lb. negative at the
end of the dive, at the last 10-15fsw, with my wings nearly empty and my
drysuit moderately luffed. I have ordered a larger set of OMS LP steels,
because eventually, my buddies and I want to take our cameras and video to
the 210-240fsw range. This will be done in steps.

Second, regarding whether my rig is balanced; I have tried to pay attention
to this over the years - taking off, or adding a few lbs where needed. I
addition I recently did a 2 1/2 hour pool session, practicing removing and
replacing my sling bottles, while maintaining my buoyancy, in mid water. I
also found that it was absolutely no problem removing my rig, with the
harness intact, by reaching back and grabbing the manifold and pulling the
rig up over my head. I have and will continue to pay attention to the
balance and buoyancy of my rig.

Third, regarding the instruction; Originally my main buddy (who is GUE
trained) and I were negotiating to get a GUE instructor to fly out here to
teach the class. This fell apart mainly because some in our group have a
professional agenda with another agency. I want to get off the nitrogen now,
and I can't fly out to Florida soon enough. My instructor is a local, with
the best technical pumping station in northern Calif., if not all the western
U.S.. He teaches Technical Diving, including deep trimix, and rebreathers.
In addition to teaching, He works professionally for diving projects around
the world. He has a 20 year track record. Lastly, for me, he posses a
wealth of knowledge about rigging and handling the boat for the deep reefs of
Carmel.

I will respectfully present my instructor with your answers and my
conclusion. If I have to use my old OMS double wings (without the bungies)
to get through the course, believe me guys I'll survive the course.

I plan to continue my diving education afterwards. A trip to Florida for a
GUE course is high on my list.

Thanks Again,

David

PS: I understand that Trey and George don't talk, or even like each other.
Wouldn't it be a great idea to have the two of them debate?? :)
