The only thing that came to mind is that sometimes long bone fractures are
associated with a fat embolus.  Usually, this shows up soon after the
injury.  I can't imagine why DAN would have made that recommendation.
Obviously it is "conservative" advice, but it's not supported by any
evidence.  What did your orthopedist say?
