Subject: THIRD REG--Thanks
Thanks to everyone who responded both privately and publicly to my post to
this "Third Reg" thread. Nearly all of these responses offered
(surprisingly consistent) detailed descriptions of how one uses a power
inflator as a third regulator. These approaches are similar to the
approach which I myself have practiced with some success while using the
DiveRite power inflator attached to my DiveRite wings, ever since first
reading sometime last year on this List about this emergency use of a
power inflator.

However, not until recently, while servicing the Scubapro power inflator
which I keep in my spare parts kit, did I attempt to use *it* as a third
regulator. I was surprised to find that I could not easily use the
Scubapro for this emergency function. (Evidently, it dumps relatively
more air into the wings than out of the oral inflation mouthpiece, as
compared to the DiveRite power inflator, when being used as a third
regulator.) I have since replaced this spare Scubapro power inflator with
a DiveRite power inflator similar to my primary inflator.

The reason for my initial post was simply to alert List readers to make
sure that their power inflators--whichever brands and models they
use--will perform as they expect when used as a third regulator, lest they
be surprised, as I might have been, during a real emergency.

Thanks again,

Ronald
