Good Idea!
Dear List and especially divers buying new gear and going more tech.
I read this list with interest.
I am changing my ways and adopting DIR philosophy.
But not totally yet.
Why, is not the purpose of this posting.
Lately, there have been some new people asking questions and setting up gear.
At this time, I would like to make a few points in that:
Try to study the DIR philosophy.
Try to adopt at least parts of it.
Don't be put off I you cannot adopt all off it at once.
Simplification, streamling, routing hoses are all good things to start with.
(My back ground is: I am a Trimix diver and a cave diver. I have no wish to
instruct, I don't need the money or the aggrivation.)
Buying a back plate and a wing is no more expensive than one of those
"flash" BCD's.
For example, I can use a 45 pound lift wing with a 100 single or my 55 twins.
Sure it's a bit big for a single.
You can easily make a single tank adaptor out of a piece of "U" aluminium.
I am sorry to sound so basic, but I am just trying impress on new comers to
twin tank or tech diving to think it through before purchasing gear.
It is too easy to buy gear that your instructor uses or suggests.
Most of us who have been doing it for a while end up with alot of gear we
don't use.
In my own case I have gear that I don't want to use anymore, and worse
still, I don't have the conscience to sell it.
Just my thoughts.
Jeff of Darwin.
The water is warm and 31C.
