Hi James, for proper DIR diving, the harness should be standard. For example, it is a single piece of webbing (no quick releases or crap like that), straps not crossing behind the shoulders, no chest strap, a Dring on each shoulder, a Dring on the left hip, a crotch strap with optional front and back Drings depending on what type of diving you do. As for wings, I've never tried a halcyon, but I have tried a DR. Having a DR wing doesn't make your rig non-DIR. Main things to consider here are not having a wing that holds way more air than you need, no bungee, single reliable inflator. Seems to me both wings meet the criteria. Maybe Halcyon's is better quality, I'm really not sure. Some of the people on this list favour halcyon partly because they are friends with the owners, but mostly because the people at Halcyon actually do extreme diving moreso than DR. Also, Halcyon caters to the DIR philosophy while anything DIR from DR seems to be pure coincidence (like their kick-ass manifold). I don't see why you shouldn't get a scubapro reg. I don't see anything wrong with having different regs on the same kit. I'd try one out before you buy to make sure that you're happy with it. For buoyancy, make sure that you can remain neutral just under the surface when your tanks are empty. Try to minimize any extra hose on your backup reg. ss On Sun, 16 Jan 2000, Akula wrote: > Do not feel you have to apologize for asking stupid > questions.
