James, > 1. What are the differences (pro/con) between the Dive-Rite and the > Halcyon harnesses and wings? Pro's Halcyon over Dive-Rite: rugged construction, 1000denier nylon, different sizes, strong inner bladder, inside bladder bigger then outside bladder to avoid stress on seams. > 2. What level of buoyancy is considered minimalist when diving singles > and doubles? The smallest wings you can get are: Single: 18lbs Double: 38lbs Now, what size wing you need depends on your setup... And what is the easiest way to compute my buoyancy > requirements in varying conditions with different tanks? (I'm a little > confused because in the past I've only relied on the old "more is > better" philosophy [without too much overkill] and never really tried to > figure the actual requirements.) Less is actually better. A lot better. I like to go with the smallest wing possible. For single alu80 I use the 18lbs, for Double alu80 I use the 38lbs bladder. Best way is to try it out and see how it feels to you. Maybe you can try one from a friend or something. I'll be diving with a dry shell, 40 > degree undergarments, single HP120 or steel 80 w/19cf alum pony [for > solo] or double 104's, and I'm not sure what type of light yet. (Feel > free to tell me where I'm wrong here also. ;-]) For the single tank there is a 27lbs Pioneer wing from Halcyon that is actually very nice. With your double 104's the 55lbs is fine. To recommend this is actually a shot in the dark, but generally speaking you could start trying these. Currently diving a Zeagle Tech50D (Apeks) and would like to pick > up my second reg. Should I stay with the same reg under DIR or > can/should I pick up a different reg like the ScubaPro G250/Mk20, which > is what I've been considering? > The Apeks is fine, I would stay with the same brand. Easier for maintenance, parts etc. > 4. Is the length of hose for the reg that doesn't have the 7' on it > standard or do you make it shorter? Standard is too long. For the back-up 20"-22" will do. > If this seems too novice for the list, I apologize. No problem, good questions to get going.
