Subject: Re: stowing SMB/liftbag to d-ring on crotch strap

DIR guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard the liftbag should be
rolled up with loops of bungee, then clipped to the 'ass-ring', the D-ring
on the back of your crotch-strap.

I think a problem with storing it in bungees on the backplate is that you
can't re-stow it yourself if need be. And yes, I was in a situation where
I had to re-stow my liftbag and wasn't able to because I was carrying it
using a method that didn't make any sense.

Also, don't even consider getting one of those 'Dive-Rite' pouches that
store the rolled up lift bag. These are sausage shaped with one end open.
This is the way that I used to carry my lift bag, and the way my TDI
instructor carried hers. On a training dive at 130 ft on air, she
couldn't get her lift bag out of the pouch. Combination of thick gloves
and narcosis didn't let her realise that she was trying to remove it out
of the closed end.
