Jim,
I don't think that it looks "dumb" at all to go over a check list before a
dive. Pilots do it and would be criticized, rightly, if they did not. Going
over a check list just might help keep a diver from forgetting something that
might be important. I know once or twice I have had to yell up to my partner
on the boat to hand down my weight belt because I jumped into the water
without it. If I had been using my check list that would not have happened,
but I was in a hurry...
