Hello List, Capt. Fly here.
I have been reading every post since I discovered this list in Oct.
and even
spent a couple of days reading much of the archival material dating to its
inception. Now I have decided to introduce myself.
My legal name is R. P. Dwire and I live in Houston Tx. I have been an
avid
(if not rabid) spearfisherman for over 20yrs.now. i own a small boat (25ft)
which I
keep at Matagorda Harbor and use on the Texas and Louisiana coasts offshore
at every opportunity. I compete in a number of spearfishing "rodeos" each year
in these states along with a few of my select "stroke" friends. But now I
believe
that I have been shown a better, safer way to do what we have been doing; by
using DIR and Helium.
I will most likely not post often, as I am in learning mode and don't
feel
qualified to inform in this medium. However, I will say that I have dived "deep
air" so long only because I was uneducated to a better way. We have only
been able to function at this due to repeated "failure drills" which never
seemed
to work as smoothly when the real thing happened at depth. Was I comfortable
or acclimated to narcosis when an unexpected problem popped up??? NEVER!!!
Even the smallest surprise seemed insurmountable. ( I am looking forward to
having reasonable control and being able to remember more than just the
highlights of a dive ).
I will be looking forward to meeting some of you and "picking your
brains".
