I'm Scott Gudmundsen, I live in N.E. Utah in Vernal. I got certified in = 1972 by the L.A. County Dept. of Recreation, Underwater Unit (that's = what is says on my card!). I grew up in Tustin, Calif. and worked in a = dive shop while in high school. (Laguna SeaSports in Laguna Beach). I quit diving back in `76 after returning from Ireland and moving to = Utah thinking that there was nothing to see inland (and being horribly = spoiled, I was into Winter Mountaineering/Ice/Rock Climbing. Besides, = all my buddies borrowed.... uh, stole... my dive gear.) Got back into diving a few years ago after discovering absolutely = fantastic diving practically in my backyard in Flaming Gorge. Enormous = wall diving that drops to over 400 feet, deep cracks and crevices, = spires and swimthroughs. A fresh water playground!!! (Dry-Suits/argon = only.) I started turning DIR without knowing that DIR existed, realizing that = danglies sold by dive shops was so stupid, and yearning for a simpler = B.C. and harness configuration like I had when I was a teenager. I = discovered DIR on the internet completely by accident and basically had = a re-birth! Thanks to posts by G.Irvine, Trout and the like (you mean = it works??!!). I've been a cop since 1982 and am trying desperately to GET OUT! I'm = married (to my first wife since `76... that must be some kind of record = for a cop!) and have four kids.=20 I dive at least once a week, snow, wind, rain, I don't care. I mix my = own Nitrox at home (the local PADI/SSI dive shop refuses to top off my = tanks if they have O2 in them (oh! oh! I just can't chance it!) Haven't = actually dived Trimix yet, but that's the next step coming this summer. = I rig for full cave every time I dive, since my dives are nearly all = exploration/discovery dives as I never know what I'm going to find = between the 75 to 120 foot level. HIGH EXCITEMENT!!! Anyway, that's me if anybody cares. If any of you guys or gals get out = this way with your kids to explore Dinosaur Land, give me a call. I can = usually break away to go diving! People usually list all their dive certification merit badges at this = point... who cares.. . So I won't. (I think it's funny how in = climbing/mountaineering there is no such thing as a "certification = card". You either learn how to do it right, or you can't get there from = here... First ascents and hard climbs speak for themselves. I guess = that's the key problem with diving, a beginner/stroke CAN get there = despite abject stupidity and be over his/her head in a heart-beat.... = blah, blah. Anyway, suffice it to say that I'm no expert in diving. But I sure do = enjoy the heck out of it! (Sorry, can't say hell... oh, damn, I mean = shoot... this is Utah and you can't talk like that here!) Scott Gudmundsen=20 (Just another diver.)
