It is not the scientific community that needs to be convinced but the bullet-proof tough guys that are in a state of denial. I really can't think of a more appropriate analogy than drinking and driving. Two drinks and you're "drunk"; 130' END and you're narced. While people may argue the fine points of exactly where the line is crossed you will always find people that belive they can cross whatever line with impunity. Exceed the limits of your training, equipment, or physiology and you eventually pay the price. We read about it in the papers and on these email lists all the time. I made a decision to dive depth appropriate gasses awhile back. If I can't afford the helium I stay shallow. It's a simple concept that some people's egos won't let them accept. There is little anyone can do to stop these people but, please, when they do die I don't want to hear a bunch of garbage like, "nice guy... tragic...cared for his family". They're idiots. C.
